Peacehaven’s prize-winning poet

Frances was in Wanganui the first few days of August at a Diversional
Therapy Conference. Over 150 delegates attended which provided ample
opportunity to pick brains and learn new activities to challenge
and entertain our residents.
While she was there, Frances entered several pieces of poetry written
by Peacehaven residents into the annual competition. She was very
proud to announce that Ola Williams had been chosen for a special
award for her poems entitled “Love”, “Peacehaven”
and “Cotton, My Pet”. The following is “Love”,
which the judges were particularly impressed with.

The beauty of love
Like some stimulating wing of the soul
Love’s elixir, giving and intoxicating.
The one of its choice
Building mythical dreams,
Sailing away in love barges
Cupid at the helm
Over mystical seas of life
Creating in each other’s oneness
Desires of the Soul.
Perfect in manifestations of those who look out of
The rose-hued glasses of love.
It is the Alpha and Omega of the Universe.

Ola has been writing poems for most of her life and is delighted
to have “won an award in the town I was born in ninety-eight
years later”. Two books of her poetry were also published
when she was 87.
Goodbye Abby

Peacehaven has agreed to partner with Lynfield College’s
Gateway program, which allows senior students to gain work
experience in a field they are interested in. Abby Slessor
has been coming here for the last eight Fridays to assist
Frances with the activities. She has enjoyed her time with
us and we’ve really enjoyed her warm and bubbly nature.
We wish her well in her future pursuits.

Western Springs
Six of the residents went to feed the birds
at Western Springs on the 19th.
The reserve was full of mums, dads, kids and pets to stop
and pass the time of day with.

Spring is in the Air
Spring is upon us and to celebrate we have decorated the main hallway
in spring colours; made daffodils out of paper and created beautiful
daffodil arrangements to go on the dinner tables. The warmer weather
has got some of the residents having morning tea out in the garden
and gazebo.
