Residents Christmas Dinner
The walls and corridors of Peacehaven have been looking increasingly Christmassy over the last few weeks with decorations contributed by Frances, residents, the visiting students and families. The place was even brighter for our Residents Christmas Dinner on the 17th of December with the residents wearing festive colours. This is our last celebration together before residents and staff go their separate ways over the summer break.

Roast turkey and veges were on the menu for the main and plum pudding with homemade custard was had for dessert. Bangs were heard as crackers were pulled open, and the orange and pink hats inside were unravelled and worn and jokes told.
Father Christmas made a grand entrance with bells jingling and a big box of goodies. He and his three elves distributed a thoughtfully chosen present to each happy resident- I think a part of everyone of us is a child at Christmas time. This really joyous occasion has topped off a great year for us.

Festivities earlier in the month included:
▪ Carol singing with Lynn and with the ladies from Blockhouse Bay Library (right).
|

|
▪ a late-night venture for six residents (led by Ces Young) who were invited to Santa’s Shed- an attraction in Charntay Ave in Manukau. There was an entire garage filled with nativity scenes, train sets, lights, and ornamental and animated Santas. ▪ van trips out to see the Christmas lights at Skilgate Ave, then home for a late supper.
▪ a visit from the kids from Learning Curves day care. They sang some carols before playing on the playground as the residents watched on
Fresh Peas

Alan and Ann harvested a big basin of pea-pods from the garden for
the residents to sample. Kathleen said it was “the best Christmas
present ever” as it brought back happy memories of shelling peas
with her father for Christmas dinner.

At our recent staff Christmas party Prakash was given a week’s trip to Fiji to recognise her 10 years of dedicated caring for our Peacehaven residents. Congratulations and thank you.
