Annual Beach Picnic
|
|
Monday the 2nd of February continued the tradition
of the weather smiling on the annual “Peacehaven Beach
Picnic” at Mission Bay.
With 2 buses, one van and trailer plus 4 cars, the fleet
moved 37 residents to the welcome shade of the Pohutukawa’s
on Mission Bay beach.
|
With packed picnic lunches freshly made by Susan and the kitchen
team, cold drinks, first aid boxes, oxygen bottles, suntan lotion
and sun hats, we were prepared for anything.
We spread our chairs along the beachfront under the shade and it
was not long before the adventurous residents were going down to
dabble their toes in the water. The water was very warm and it was
good to feel the sand between your toes.
Some of the Louis Vuitton Pacific Cup yachts were on the harbour
but the day was so nice for us that there was insufficient breeze
for racing so we watched the yachts being towed back to town.
The view of Rangitoto was uninterrupted and the calm sea was only
broken by Cornelius when he decided to go for a swim.
This year we had about 12 residents go for a paddle:

The fresh salt air did its trick and soon
everyone was hungry, so out came the individual lunch packs
of sandwich, bacon and egg pie and cake followed by yoghurt
and more cold drinks.
|
All too soon it was time to pack up and climb into the buses for
the trip home.
A happy day enjoyed by staff and residents alike.
Monthly Activities
|
During the month
some of our residents have been making Lavender Bags. The
lavender has been harvested from the Peacehaven garden and
dried over a few weeks then put into bags that the residents
cut and sewed.
The Resthome Games Round Robin keeps going and
our team went out on two visits.
Valentines Day was celebrated but nothing exciting to report
from the romantic aspect.

|
We had a juggler, Henry Bicknill, to entertain the residents. He
juggled balls, rings and clubs and impressed everyone with the dexterity
of his movements.
Congratulations Carol

Our chef, Carol Exton was a participant in
this years “Speights Coast to Coast.”
This is the world’s premier multi sport event that
had Carol running, cycling and kayaking 243 kilometres from
Kumara Beach on the west coast of the South Island across
the Alps to Christchurch.
Carol completed the course in 19 hours 50 minutes over two
days. The photo shows Carol running through the Waimakariri
Gorge (the Grand Canyon of New Zealand).

Not only a huge effort over the event but many, many months of
preparation to build up the strength and energy required. Well done
Carol, we are all impressed with your effort.
