Chinese New Year Celebrations

We had a wonderful time welcoming in the Year of the Rabbit with an Asian themed day on the 3rd of February.
While lunch was being prepared we managed to get most of the residents to pose for a photo wearing traditional rice-picking hats and fluttering red fans. Then out came the delicious meals of fried rice, egg fu yoong, chop suey and spring rolls.
After lunch everybody assembled in the Kinross Lounge to watch a slideshow of their photos which provided the residents with many good laughs.
For afternoon tea fortune cookies (below left) were served. Ola’s fortune read "anything you’re good at contributes to happiness".

Celtic Entertainer
We had Nicky, a Celtic entertainer from Titirangi, come to sing, play the flute and to perform some Irish and Scottish dances.
Everyone was invited to take part in the dancing so several residents got up and formed a circle. Those in wheelchairs were included to- they were wheeled back and forth to the music. A great time of revelry was had by all. |

Other News
-This month’s theme has been “Seascape 2011”. The residents have painted some fishes for Frances to compile into the eye-catching display you now see in the corridor.
We have two large swan plants (one by reception, one by the gazebo) that have been absolutely laden with caterpillars.
Many of them have chosen to form chrysalises under our reception window and some have even taken up residence on the inside window frames. It has been a great source of interest for the residents, who have been spotting new caterpillars and watching as the chrysalis’s turn from green to black to produce lovely monarchs.
