Flower boxes

Mavis has been very good at nurturing the
flowers at the end of the downstairs corridor. The benefit
can be seen as the flower boxes make a brilliant show. This
is a favourite spot for Mavis, Louise and Alistair, which
is not only sunny but has beautiful blooms to brighten the
day. Thanks Mavis for looking after them so well.

Rod & Pam from Blockhouse Bay Pharmacy
A huge thanks and sad goodbye to Rod and Pam from the Blockhouse
Bay Pharmacy. They sold the business and retired in November 2008.
Blockhouse Bay Pharmacy has been our pharmacy since September 1992
(when we purchased Peacehaven) and has been a great help to all
our residents over this period. Nothing was too big, too small or
too difficult for Rod and his team. They served us all very well
and we wish Rod many happy hours on the golf course.
The business was purchased by Golf Rd Pharmacy and the new owner,
Mr. Albert Jordaan, is continuing to provide our pharmaceutical
needs to the same high standard that we require.
It must be the season for change…
At the end of last year our long time podiatrist Mr. Ross Morgan
resigned. Ross had been looking after our resident’s finger
and toe nails for at least ten years. We wish him well for the future.
We have now arranged with “Sole to Soul” to provide
foot and hand care. Sole to Soul is run by Andrea King who believes
in fostering mobility and independence through timely empathetic
foot care. Andrea will monitor individuals changing needs and re-evaluate
the service to match. Not only will resident’s nails be professionally
clipped, filed and shaped, but the process will end with a light
lotion massage.
As foot concerns are addressed, records of all work completed will
be noted in our care plans so that Andrea’s work will become
part of our team approach to holistic care. Welcome aboard Andrea.
Olwyn has moved to Hawke’s Bay
Sadly, we farewelled Olwyn Fraser who has been our Registered Nurse
for the last eight years.
Olwyn joined us when we were a 20 bed Resthome in March 2001 as
our Registered Nurse Manager and became the Clinical Manager when
we became a Hospital in December 2006.
During the time Olwyn was nursing at Peacehaven we completed the
building programme that changed us from a 20 bed Resthome to a 45
bed Resthome and Hospital. There were many changes and inconveniences
over the building period and Olwyn coped admirably with
a sense of humour.

Until a permanent appointment is made Senate Nursing are providing
our RN cover.
With the wonderful weather we have been having over the last few
weeks I am sure we have all been enjoying evening BBQ’s. If
you would like to share a BBQ with your Mum or Dad at Peacehaven,
please feel free to bring your BBQ or picnic and use the gazebo
on our front lawn. We would be delighted to have this area used
by families to share the time with their loved ones.
