March 2009
Activities
One of our van trips took a group of residents to visit Animates
(a pet shop in Three Kings). This was a very popular destination
with a variety of birds, kittens, puppies, goldfish and tropical
fish to see and hold. The residents thought they may like to buy
a parrot to bring back home but the $650 price tag put them off.
| Other outings during
the month included the Round Robin Games, Hydrotherapy has
started again and the Evergreen Concert.
This concert is organised by the combined churches of Blockhouse
Bay and has a very positive event, with a large crowd to hear
the guest singer followed by a nice finger food lunch.

We had about 20 residents in attendance.
The other highlight of the month was St Patrick’s Day when
the shamrocks appeared. Some green food from the kitchen was served
as well as all the green clothing for residents to wear.
There was also a little leprechaun lurking in the office.
Basic First Aid Training
On the 2nd of March we had fourteen of our staff undertaking a
day’s training on Basic First Aid. The in-house course started
at 7:30am so it was an early start for everyone. The trainer was
excellent and made the day very interactive and appropriate for
our environment. At the end of the day we all had to pass a test
before our certificates were issued. We attained a 100% pass.
Baptist Youth Visit
On Sunday the 29th of March we had a visit from the Blockhouse
Bay Baptist youth group.
They had prepared questions to conduct an interview with residents
to encourage interaction between the generations. It was very successful
for all parties.

New Registered Nurse
Our new Registered Nurse Jackie Kairau will be working 4 nights.
We value her contribution and expertise.
