May 2011

Belly Dancer

On the 26th of May the residents enjoyed watching belly-dancing by Tania, our entertainer. She was a very vibrant person who enthusiastically involved the residents using percussion instruments and scarves and had them participating (not in the belly dance) but in using their instruments to keep in time to the rhythm of the dance. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the activity.

Jim Sparrey

We have had Jim Sparrey, a country singer, in a couple of times now to entertain us. He’s great at getting everybody involved, whether it’s by handing someone a colourful cowboy hat to don or by encouraging people to get up out of their seats to dance. This particular time he had several residents form a conga line around the room.

Keeping well this Winter

We would appreciate it if those of you are exhibiting any cold or flu like symptoms refrain from visiting Peacehaven until you are well again. Thank you for your understanding. As part of our continuing care for our residents, the heating is now back to winter levels. We try to keep the facility at 22°C by ducting the warm air through the facility.

Staff Training

We are all committed to keeping our skills current and up-to-date which means that we are attending seminars run by outside advisors, in house seminars where experts come into our facility and run staff training sessions and many of our staff are training through the ACE programme of “off campus” style projects.

In the last few weeks the staff have undertaken the following training:

- HIV and Aged Care
- Managing COPD
- Pressure Areas
- Wound Healing and Management
- Nutrition
- Assessment Workshop

- Hearing Loss and Hearing Aid Management.

Congratulations

…to Ola Williams, who turned 100 years young on the 7th of May 2011. Ola’s special day was recognised by friends and family who came from near and far. Ola received cards from the Queen, Prime Minister, numerous other dignitaries and has over 100 cards decorating her room.
