Mother’s Day

A high tea with all the trimmings was enjoyed by all for our Mother’s Day celebration this month.

The residents were thrilled to walk in and see each table had been set with a pink or pale green tablecloth, a floral centrepiece and pretty bone china cups. Salmon and asparagus rolls and Devonshire tea were served up along with scones with jam and lashings of cream.

Earlier that morning, our Mother’s Day display was unveiled. For a month Frances had been a secret squirrel by collecting photos from families of the residents with their mothers -or the resident as a mother- to put on our display (thank you so very much for these.)

This proved a lovely surprise as well as a major talking point. Staff and residents agonised over which resident was which. Residents discovered their own picture and shared stories from the time it was taken.

A competition was started to see who could correctly identify the most residents. Nell Willan spent quite some time in front of the display sussing people out- her entry was streaks ahead with 30 out of 35 matches. She received a box of chocolates for her efforts.

Congratulations Frances

On the 7th Mary Gracie, president of the New Zealand Society of Diversional Therapists, came to award Frances with her registration certificate and badge.

Advanced Directives

This is planning for an emergency situation where resuscitation is required. In the past, family members or the Power of Attorney in consultation with residents, have signed this form. Now the Ministry of Health requires that only the residents should sign.

With this in mind Diney our Care Manager will interview the residents and complete the forms according to the residents wishes if they are considered mentally capable of making this decision.

If you have queries about this please phone Ann on (09) 627 8653.

Other activities

-We made some lovely mixed grain bread in a bread maker and got to sample the results at morning tea.

- The residents got to exercise some hand-eye co-ordination by throwing and catching two giant balloons.

-Bus trip destinations this month have included One Tree Hill, Kumeu, the Airport and Muriwai Beach.
